“I'd rather die like a man, than live like a coward.”
“Everytime I speak, I want the truth to come out.”

The Rose That Grew from Concrete
poem by Tupac Shakur
(1999)
Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack
in the concrete
Proving nature's laws wrong it learned 2 walk
without having feet
Funny it seems but by keeping its dreams
it learned 2 breathe fresh air
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else even cared!
From 1995’s song "So Many Tears":
"...
Lord knows I tried, been a witness to homicide
Seen drive-bys takin' lives, little kids die
Wonder why as I walk by
Broken-hearted as I glance at the chalk line, getting high
This ain't the life for me, I wanna change
But ain't no future bright for me, I'm stuck in the game
I'm trapped inside a maze
...
Will I survive til the morning, to see the sun,
Please Lord forgive me for my sins, cause here I come."
